Welcome to the Connecticut Composition Project.
The Connecticut Composition Project is designed to support Connecticut students and teachers who want to increase their knowledge and understanding of music composition. Through this password protected website, participating schools are able to have their students post music compositions online for review by students from other schools, as well as by a group of professional composers. Students gain an understanding of the creative process by learning how to knowledgeably and constructively critique their own work, and the work of others. If you would like to become a member and gain full access to this site, click on the <Membership> tab above.
This project is supported by an Interdistrict Cooperative Grant from the Connecticut Department of Education. Through this grant, students from diverse socio-economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds are provided with opportunities to work together as they learn music, a core subject as identified by the Connecticut State Dpartment of Education. If you would like to learn more about this, click on Interdistrict Cooperative Grant under the <About Us> tab in the menu above.
The Connecticut State Department is currently developing Common State Assessment Tasks in Music. This initiative is focusing on the development of tasks at the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 12th grade levels. Creating tasks at each grade level are being developed. If you would like to become involved in this project, contact Scott Shuler at scott.shuler@ct.gov or Richard Wells at rwells@simsbury.k12.ct.us. The 8th Grade Music Composition task has been pre-piloted and is ready to be piloted in schools. Assessments of students' ability to create (compose or improvise) music are currently being developed for grades two, four, and six.
